Aldo Salvagno
Conductor and Music Consultant of CLIP
Born in Salerno, Italy, in 1970, Aldo Salvagno graduated with honours in History of Music from DAMS University of Bologna obtained a Diploma in Composition in Bologna’s Conservatory.
He started conducting in 1994 in Bologna and then he was engaged as permanent assistent’ at “Vittorio Emanuele” theatre in Messina (Sicily) during all the season (1995-1997) preparing chorus, orchestra and singers; at the same time he conducted his own compositions, Stravinsky’s Histoire du soldat in Bologna Conservatory and many concerts..
In 2015 he conducted Romeo et Juliette (Gounod) in Spain; a tour of Tosca in Italy and Spain with the Orchestra Rossini from Pesaro; Don Pasquale in a touring production
In 2014 he conducted the New year’s concert in Menton, Palais de l’Europe, Elisir d’amore (Teatro D’annunzio , Latina)..A touring Madama Butterfly in Northern Italy (Teatro Rossini di Pesaro, Teatro Consorziale di Budrio; teatro Borgatti di Cento, and many others) and Spain (Teatro Vitoria Eugenia S.Sebastian, Vitoria, Irun, Mondragon with Orchestra Rossini di Pesaro, and a Elisir d’amore ; Petite messe solennelle by Rossini.
In 2013 Salvagno conducts Luisa Miller at Teatro Superga, Nichelino, Turin, a Cenerentola in tour (Italy and Spain: Budrio, Teatro Consorziale; Imperia, Teatro Cavour; Teatro Amaya, Irun, Spain) a lyric concert in Tokyo, Rigoletto in Budrio, Ernani in Lecco, Milan, The Merry widow in Irun (Spain).
In 2012 Salvagno conducts a touring Trovatore in some historical theatres of Italy; Traviata at the 27th edition of Lirica in Piazza , Massa Marittima, than he conducted Le villi in Lecco (Milan), Cavalleria and Pagliacci in Spain (Irun)Tosca in Castelfiorentino (Tuscany).
In 2011 Aldo Salvagno conducts Macbeth (Teatro Politeama of Bra, Cuneo), Norma (Theatre of Lecco), The Barber of Seville on tour in Italy, Il trovatore, at the Summer Festival of Saluzzo, Italy and also at the Theatre of Irun in Spain, Cimarosa’s l'impresario in angustie in Budrio.
Other recent engagements in 2009- 2010 include Otello and Falstaff (Theatre of Lecco, Italy), Giselle by Adam and Don Pasquale (Theatre Superga, Turin), Nabucco (Carrara), La traviata (Budrio), L’elisir d'amore (Teatro Politeama of Bra, Cuneo), Lucia di Lammermoor (Irun, Spain), concerts with June Anderson in Budrio and Forlì, Don Giovanni tour (Irun, Spain; Theatre of Bra and Budrio, Italy), premiere performances of Ero e Leandro by Bottesini , and Orfeo e Euridice by Gluck, (1774 Neapolitan edition) at Martina Franca, 35th Festival della Valle d’Itria, concerts with the Orchestra Filarmonica del Piemonte in Teatro Toselli of Cuneo and Palais de L’Europe of Menton, France; a tour of Rigoletto and Barbiere in western Italy, the region of Bologna and Spain; Turandot,, Norma, and Manon Lescaut in Lecco, Milan.
In the concert hall, Salvagno has conducted many orchestras including the Philharmonic Orchestra of Turin, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Opera Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Kyoto Philharmonic Orchestra,Orchestra Filarmonica del Piemonte. Orchestra sinfonica di Grosseto, Orchestra Internazionale d’Italia, Orchestra “Maderna” of Forlì, Orchestra “Città di ferrara” Concert highlights include many concerts around Europe and Asia; a performance marking the anniversary of Verdi’s death at the Palazzo Reale in 2001, Milan; touring Switzerland and Germany with the Filarmonica del Piemonte and the world premiere of Lunge o profane amor, a sacred cantata by Calderara.
In Australia he conducted Madama Butterfly (1st version) for Melbourne Opera in 2004, again Madama Butterfly and Turandot for the State Opera of South Australia in Adelaide, in 2006 and 2008, La fanciulla del West for the West Australian Opera and the finals of the 25th Mathy Singing Competition in Perth in 2009.
In 2002 he made his Japanese debut conducting Il Tabarro and Cavalleria Rusticana in Nagoya and returning in 2004 for Madama Butterfly at the Kyoto Concert Hall, and in 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2011, and he made his American debut, in 2005, conducting the Dearborn, Livonia and Plymouth Symphony Orchestras.
Salvagno’s extensive opera and sacred repertoire includes all the main titles from Mozart to Puccini. The Verdi and Mozart Requiems, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Carmen, Don Giovanni, Le Nozze di Figaro, Rigoletto, Il Trovatore, Otello, Simon Boccanegra, Nabucco La bohème, Falstaff, Ernani, Le villi, La traviata, Tosca, Pagliacci, Cavalleria rusticana, Carmen, Sonnambula, Turandot, L’elisir d’amore, Lucia di Lammermoor, La fanciulla del West, Don Pasquale, Luisa Miller and Madama Butterfly which was performed in theatres across Italy, including Teatro Civico Vercelli, Testro “Borgatti” in Cento, Teatro Consorziale in Budrio (Bologna) and Teatro Carignano (Turin), and with companies outside Italy including Opera de Nice (Carmen - Palais de L’Europe in Menton, France, 2004), Melbourne Opera, West Australian Opera and State Opera of South Australia and the Theatre of Irun, Spain.
Appointed Chief Conductor of the Orchestra Filarmonica del Piemonte in 2002, and from 2007 Musical Director for the Colzani Singing Competition at the Theatre Consorziale of Budrio, Salvagno has previously held the position of Chief Conductor of the Theatre of Irun, Spain. He has given vocal masterclasses in Holland, Italy, with Miss June Anderson, France (Conservatoire National Superieur, Paris), Japan (every year since 2003) and Australia (2006-2008-2009) and China (2012), and Oper Frankfurt and has taught at the University of Bologna from 1998 to 2000. He wrote a book about the composer Stefano Pavesi’s Life and works that will be published by LIM in Italy in 2016.
In 2009 He recorded in Dvd and CD Bottesini’s opera Ero e Leandro, a premiere world recording with Roberto Scandiuzzi singing (published by Dynamic)
