The Cremona Antiqua orchestra was born in 2003, almost ten years after the Costanzo Porta choir, with the intention of completing the vision of Antonio Greco's project also from an instrumental point of view, bringing stability and interpretative coherence to the work of the vocal group.
Since 2015 the orchestra has started an important collaboration with the Festival della Valle d'Itria in Martina Franca, where it was the production orchestra in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2020.
In 2021, the orchestra participated in numerous performances within the Monteverdi Festival, including the Scherzi Musicali Monteverdiani at the Violin Museum in Cremona. With Michela Lucenti's contemporary dance company Balletto Civile, he created the show Figli di un Dio Ubriaco, which has toured in Cremona, Montepulciano, Rovereto, the Piccolo Teatro Strehler in Milan, the Storchi in Modena and the Teatro della Tosse in Genoa.
In 2022 he participated in the world premiere of the contemporary opera A Sweet Silence in Cremona, written by Mark Campbell and set to music by Roberto Scarcella Perino, which was later revived in Florence.
In December 2022, the orchestra, together with cellist Ettore Pagano, performed two concerts featuring Haydn and Mozart, performed with classical bows, in Cremona and Novara.
Together with the choir, it has participated in several festivals throughout Italy, including: Musica e Poesia San Maurizio, at the Monteverdi Festival in Cremona, at the Festival dei due mondi in Spoleto, at the International Organ Festival in Aosta, at the International Midsummer Festival in Tagliacozzo, at the Pergolesi Spontini Festival in lesi, at the Sagra malatestiana in Rimini, at the Rassegna Cori a Palazzo in Mantua and for the concert festivals of the Amici della musica in Verona and Lucca, at the Sagra Musicale Umbra, at Milano Arte Musica, at the Milanese serate Musicali, at the season of the Teatro Grande in Brescia and the Verdi in Pordenone.
In 2023 he produced L'Incoronazione di Poppea at the Monteverdi Festival 2023, with Antonio Greco and Pierluigi Pizzi. The production will be revived in the fall in Como and Pavia and in January 2024 in Pisa and Ravenna.

Antonio Greco

He has a diploma in Piano, Choral Music and Choir Conducting, and a degree in Renaissance Polyphony. He teaches Choral Exercises at the "Giuseppe Verdi" Conservatory of Ravenna.
In 1993 he founded the Costanzo Porta Choir and in 2004 the Cremona Antiqua Orchestra, an ensemble on original instruments, under whose leadership he has given concerts in the most important Italian and European festivals. He has been assistant conductor to Sir John Eliot Gardiner and harpsichordist of the Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists on numerous world tours. He has been collaborating since 2018, as choirmaster, with Ricardo Muti, with whom he has given Macbeth, Nabucco, Stabat Mater, Te Deum and Verdi's Messa da Requiem and Beethoven's 9th Symphony (Cherubini Orchestra, Coro Costanzo Porta/Cremona Antiqua). He has been choirmaster of Opera Lombardia, Opéra de Lausanne and Chorus "Luigi Cherubini." He has given masterclasses in Baroque Repertoire at Accademia "Celletti" in Martina Franca, Cajkovsky Conservatory in Moscow, Opera School in Bologna, Musica Antica at Palazzo di Genova, Festival Monteverdi in Cremona, and masterclasses in Choral Conducting at ASAC Veneto and Fondazione Guido d'Arezzo.
As a conductor, he has worked with Orchestra Regionale Toscana, Orchestra Luigi Cherubini, Orchestra Internazionale d'Italia, the OIDI Festival Baroque Ensemble, Orchestra della Magna Grecia, Cremona Antiqua, Orchestra "1813" of Teatro Sociale di Como, Baroque Opera Concert in Tokyo. In 2021 he was Music Director at Il Cantiere in Montepulciano. In the same year he was appointed Principal Music Director of the Monteverdi Festival in Cremona, of which his two ensembles, under the name of Coro and Orchestra Cremona Antiqua, became the resident groups.
This leads him to bring to life, year after year, the great Monteverdi masterpieces: the Orfeo in 2022-021, the Vespro della Beata Vergine in 2022, performed in Cremona, Mantua, Milan, Perugia and Pordenone, as well as, leading the Liatoshynskyi Capella, in Kiev at the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, in a project symbolic of brotherhood and sharing between two peoples.
This year Greco will conduct L'incoronazione di Poppea, directed by Pierluigi Pizzi, which will be staged at theaters in Cremona, Como, Pavia, Pisa and Ravenna.
